About

Unhooked

  • The Wilderness Within: Understanding the emotional landscape of addiction.

  • Trial and Error: What I learned treatment-hopping my way to lasting change.

  • Currents of Change: Embracing the continuous flow and unpredictabilities of recovery, including relapse.

  • Sanctuary in the Stream: Finding peace and resilience through nature and mindfulness practices.

  • Practical Support: Each chapter offers look at my own journey and the related recovery lesson. Plus, I’ve included commentary on each lesson, called “Recovery Reflections,” as well as “Reflection Questions” to help you discover how the lesson applies to you.

Addiction casts a dark shadow of fear and uncertainty over the thought of freedom through recovery. For the afflicted and their loved ones, not knowing what lies ahead fuels hesitation and doubt. Often, addicts and their families navigate a complex web of guilt and misunderstanding, struggling in silence as they yearn for relief and understanding.

With my book, "Unhooked," I share many lessons learned from treatment-hopping, relapse, experiencing loss of loved ones, and finally moving towards a much better way. If you feel stuck in the shadows, you’ll appreciate my story.

I hope to demonstrate that no matter how far one falls, it is always possible to rebuild a life of purpose, stability, and peace.

Meet

Mark Wierzbinski

Born in Boston and now residing in the rugged beauty of Swan Valley, Idaho, Mark Wierzbinski is an author and real estate investor whose life is defined by a powerful transformation. For over 31 years, Mark has navigated the high-stakes world of real estate flipping, specializing for the last quarter-century as a mobile home park owner and rehabber.

However, his most significant “rehab” was his own life. After a past defined by the grip of addiction—marked by massive seizures, a life of crime, and several narrow escapes from death—Mark is now celebrating more than 18 years of sobriety. This journey from being “hooked” to “unhooked” has reshaped his perspective on success, shifting his focus from personal gain to a daily mission of selflessness and service to others.

A dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Mark remains active in the recovery community and strives to help someone new each day. When he isn’t managing properties or writing, he can be found traveling to new fly fishing destinations, rod in hand, or immersed in books on finance, self-help, and the art of the catch.

Mark has been married to his wife, Wocky Redsar, for 10 years and is the proud father of two adult children, Mark and Kate. Through his story, he hopes to demonstrate that no matter how far one falls, it is always possible to rebuild a life of purpose, stability, and peace.

Author Mark Wierzbinski holds a large rainbow trout he caught while fishing in a river, with colorful trees and hills in the background.

Mark reveals the scary backdrop that led to escaping life through drugs, then transports the reader into the chaos of his addicted life, the recovery missteps and follows with the peace that comes when a life is transformed for good. His “Recovery Reflections” and related questions offer something for everyone, whether in recovery or not.”
